According to EurAsiantimes article Russian Jet's produce better thrust and better manoeuvrability due to 3D thrust vectoring. It gives advantage in close combat dogfights while American jet's are stealthy and not easily detected by radars. So American jets always have advantages in BVR (Beyond Visual Range) fights.

What Should be India's foreign policy to counter China
Russia's 5th generation Su-57 is one of highly manoeuvrable and best in thrust vectoring. Russia claims Su-57 is more advanced then F-22 and F-35, so it named with sum of both (22+35=57) and very stealthy like American jets.
But some Defence experts say Su-57 not much advanced and not enough stealthy. Expert says In a dog fight Su-57 won't be able to detect F-22 and F-35 while it'll be detected by those American jets and it will launch air to air missile on Su-57, then thrust and manoeuvrable is useless. F-22 or F-35 will have advantages in dogfights.
Boycott Chinese goods is good idea ?
China's fighter jets are either Russian ( Su 30 MKM, Su 35 etc) or Russian modelled Jet's ( Russian Copy) like Chengdu J-16 etc. Chengdu J-20 China's 5th generation aircraft, many defence experts says it's not 5th generation aircraft. These jet's are not stealthy as compared to American jets. That's why China didn't indicted J-20 in their PLAAF (Airforce). .
So China's neighbouring countries like India, Japan,. Taiwan and other needs Western jets to edge over Chinese jet's. Between Indo-China tension India suddenly ordered 21 Mig-29 and 12 Su-30 MKI in 2.3 billion USD. It won't give advantages over China.
Was Rafale Deal a Scam ?
India needs 5th generation stealthy fighter jets to counter China. Recently USA approves sale for 105 F-35 fighter jets to Japan. Estimated price is around 23.1 billon USD. Global Times ( China's Government Media) is indirect expressing their worries with this deal.
India's buying S-400, so there is very rare chance that US will offer F-35 to India. But F-35 will be a game changer for India.
